Investment Accounts
These are taxable accounts and can be opened in the name of an individual or joint between two individuals, a corporation, or another individual in the form of a Trust.
Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSP); Locked-In Retirement Accounts (LIRA)
These accounts are for investors under 71 years of age. They are tax-sheltered account for retirement savings. Contributions made to an RRSP plan are tax-deductible. Locked-in retirement accounts are opened to receive the transfer of assets from a registered pension plan.
Registered Retirement Income Funds (RRIF); Life Income Funds (LIF); Locked-In Retirement Income Funds (LRIF)
Clients who have an RRSP or a LIRA account must convert to a RRIF, LIF or an LRIF once they reach the age of 71. Portfolios may, however, be converted earlier than 71 if required. A minimum amount must be withdrawn each year from these tax sheltered accounts.
Tax Free Savings Accounts (TFSA)
Clients may contribute up to $5,000 per year, allowing clients to earn tax-free investment income to more easily meet lifetime savings goals. These accounts are great compliments to already established Registered Retirement Savings Plans (RRSP).
