QV Investors launched the Canadian Small Cap Equity Fund on January 1, 1997. The Fund invests in Canadian companies, typically with market capitalizations above a minimum of $100.0 million and up to two times the upper end of the BMO Small Cap Index or approximately $3.5 billion.
The return objective is to exceed the average annual return on equity of Canadian companies, a rate of 10% over the past two decades, and to exceed the return on the BMO Small Cap Index and do so with lower volatility.
The Canadian Small Cap Equity Fund selects companies by QV's fundamental tests of management commitment, financial and operational records or business franchise, balance sheet quality, valuation, dividend record, and overall quantitative contribution to the portfolio.
As with other QV equity portfolios, we construct the Canadian Small Cap Equity Fund to exhibit measurably better, value, growth, dividend, and credit characteristics than the benchmark. The portfolio will have broad industry diversification.
The risks in the Canadian Small Cap Equity Fund include equity market volatility, the smaller size to the companies owned and the fundamental risks of corporate investment.
